Malan Breton Invites You to Taiwan, the Heart of Asia

For his Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Taiwanese-born designer Malan Breton decided to pay tribute to his native country. Partnered with the Taiwanese Tourist Bureau, the show was a collection of 88 different looks - all draped in silks and East Asian florals.

Standout pieces from the show included a canary yellow swing dress, a periwinkle mermaid dress with an elaborate train and high collar, a white body-conscious dress with a matching cape and embellished collar of black jewels, bright silk suits for men—one of Breton’s trademark designs—some even with ¾ length pants. There were classic menswear looks for women as well, consisting of tailored cream vests and trousers.

The make-up artistry, led by Alexander Acosta was a bold, yet intricate vision. First, a matte red lip was applied, followed by an ombré eye shadow. A golden orange color was used in the corner of the eye, followed by peach in the middle, and magenta on the crease. This gave a classic and flowery look to the models.

The hair styling, led by Christo of Christo Fifth Avenue, also used flower-related imagery as a springboard for his design. The women’s hair was arranged in spiral-like chignons to resemble soft flowers, while men sported pompadours similar to that of James Dean and Elvis Presley.

Due to the fact that most of the women’s collection shared a parallel piece with the men’s, fashionable and luxurious couples would be the perfect customers. It is elegant, well-tailored, and as Breton says so himself, “A love letter to my country.”
