Elegant Through The Times

Celebrating 125 years of Lanvin, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection was dedicated to the elegant woman who strolls with unbridled grace. With creative director Alber Elbaz at the helm, the simple tailoring of the pieces gave the women a timeless aura, similar to that of the fashion house’s longevity.

The dresses were Grecian-style, with thigh-high slits. Statement jewelry stood out against the classic palettes of navy, blue and white. Tunics also made an appearance, offering a relaxed, Bohemian look as well. Though this wasn’t the trademark festive look Elbaz used with his cocktail designs, the dresses are a testament to the simple grace and beauty of the fashion house itself.

In a discussion with Interview magazine, Elbaz went into further detail about his respect for fashion as an art in itself: “I think fashion is about longevity and doing your work. It isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about process, keeping it going … I often think about whether fashion is a reflection of everything else in life. Designers will say, ‘Gray is the new black,’ and the next season say, ‘I can’t do one more gray piece.’ Where does it go? How come the loyalty vanishes? Why don’t you love gray every season?”

The Spring/Summer 2015 collection from Lanvin is not only a celebration of the house, but a celebration of women in all moments of their lives. By presenting versatile and quintessential pieces, Elbaz shows that clothes are not just works of art, but art that anyone can appreciate.
