Fashion One takes a look at the career of model-turned-actress Demi Moore

Originally from Roswell, New Mexico, Demi Moore was born on November 11, 1962. She first moved to West Hollywood at the age of 15, leaving high school and her family home to pursue a modeling career, and was signed to Elite Modeling Agency at the age of 16. Moore travelled the world with her modeling career before returning to drama school. She was first cast in cult teen drama Choices in 1981, and in 1985, Moore had a breakthrough role with box office smash St. Elmo’s Fire, directed by Joel Schumacher. Starring in this movie brought her international success, and before long, she was officially part of the Brat Pack—a collection of young Hollywood stars in the ‘80s. During this time, she starred in films such as About Last Night, One Crazy Summer and Wisdom.

However, we can’t talk about Demi Moore without talking about the supernatural drama Ghost, in which she starred alongside movie legend Patrick Swayze. Ghost was and still is an iconic film which catapulted Moore’s acting career to the next level, and remains her most successful film to date. Ghost was the largest-grossing film of 1990, earning over $505 million at the box office.

Mom of three daughters, Moore famously appeared nude on the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991. Pregnant with her daughter Scout LaRue at the time, famous photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the cover, and with the intention to portray an anti-Hollywood, anti-glitz attitude, the cover sparked intense controversy for both Vanity Fair and Moore.
