Jean Pierre Braganza London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014

London Fashion Week started off with London born designer Jean-Pierre Braganza. It was very hard to imagine what to expect, since the designer has shown us that he loves a fantasy world as much as the reality when he got inspired by darker designs for his fall collection.

Jean Pierre Braganza London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 Collection was quite simply outstanding. For this season, Jean-Pierre Braganza collaborated with Ukranian artist Zinaida Lihacheva. Braganza told me about their chance meeting at his show last year in February. Zinaida shared her adoration for the brand and also told Jean-Pierre of her own work in the artistic world. So for this season, Jean-Pierre Braganza dedicated his prints to the artist and used his collection as a showcase for her work. His pants are quite literally works of art.

Even the plainest of outfits at Jean Pierre Braganza became fit for an Egyptian Goddess with the London fashion week makeup look. But while turquoise eyeliner and pieces of statement jewellery nodded to the Ancient, the clothing and hair – a smaller braid nested inside a big one, giving the look of an alienous spinal column – clashed the whole thing into the future.

The Canadian-born Braganza's spring womenswear preview is inspired by the "contradiction of femininity," and his opening outfit tells you what this is all about: a satin dress suit with a businesslike blazer and a flirty mini skater skirt, in bold blocks of black, white and pale pink.

Braganza takes that interplay between sweetness and toughness further as his collection unfolds. The same baby pink reappears as dresses in his signature draped silhouette, tops and skirts with high-low hems and low-slung shorts. There's quite a lot of skin on show, whether through cutouts at the back or an asymmetrical hem that ends high at the thigh.

There are urban styles like a sporty, oversized tops and a sleeveless biker jacket in cracked leather, but also surprisingly elegant and easy to wear blouse and pencil skirt ensembles thrown in the mix.
